It’s me, hi, I’m the writer, it’s me.

Excess Reality is a newsletter to help push me to a) write consistently, b) tackle my perfectionism, and c) not shy away from presenting my writing to other people. I mostly write dark and fantastical stories, so if that sounds up your street then please do subscribe. If you hate the sound of that, but know someone who loves unsettling things, feel free to share the link!

So far my stories have ranged from a tiny 276 word body horror story, to a long, flawed and hopefully interesting 5200+ word story about someone trying to save their career by infiltrating a social movement. I’ve been dabbling in styles too, from my first attempt at an epistolary tale, to a short esoteric instruction manual.

I’m interested in themes of physical and societal disconnection, authenticity, generational trauma, cult dynamics, conflicting self-narratives and the unreliable nature of memories.

I’m also doing a weekly newsletter where I reflect on what I’ve been writing - what I’ve liked and hated and how I think the stories could be improved - as well as things I’ve come across that I think my readers might like.

Why subscribe?

Do you get bored on your daily commute? Do the themes mentioned above interest you? Do you want to support a novice writer because you’ve been there, or else aspire to write more yourself? Are you interested in reading a story a day from the same writer and inevitably having a peek into their psychological state because they haven’t had enough time to edit and disguise their true self?
